ROOTS
of K.K.O FAMILY

Foundation of Annai Group of Institutions

Background &
Time Period

The roots of the KKO family go back to the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu in the early 1950s. The family came from a humble Muslim background, grounded in strong faith in God and a deep sense of service to others. Life was modest, but values were rich. Faith, resilience, and compassion were not spoken loudly—they were lived every day.

The name KKO itself is a tribute to lineage and legacy, drawn from the initials of the family’s forebears: Kadar, Kedar, and Omar. Among them, Mr. Omar—grandfather of Mr. Anwar Kabir—served as a Muslim priest by profession. In pursuit of livelihood and purpose, he later travelled and settled in Sri Lanka.

Early Period

Who Was Involved?

Mr. Anwar Kabir grew up as one among seven siblings in the coastal village of Gopalapattinam, in the presentday Pudukkottai district. Life during those years was marked by severe economic hardship.

Yet, the family stood firmly together, supported by the tireless efforts of his father, Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, and the quiet strength of his mother, Mrs. Fathima Beevi, who ensured that the family’s basic needs were met despite limited means.

What happened and Why?

Recurring droughts in their native region pushed them to migrate in search of stability. With hope outweighing certainty, they moved to Thanjavur and began life from the ground up. The family ran a small roadside clothing store—simple, honest work that sustained them day by day—while living in a narrow shelter house but few comforts. Those years were defined by hardship and uncertainty.

Impact and legacy...

Mr. Anwar Kabir often recalls a defining memory from those days: despite the family’s own extreme poverty, his mother would offer food, care, and moral support to people arriving in Thanjavur from their native villages for medical treatment.

"These acts of compassion and service laid the moral foundation upon which the Annai Group of Institutions would later be established."

Early days of our humble rental campus, where simplicity, shared dreams, and unwavering dedication quietly ignited the journey of an institution built on purpose.
